Colleen White, flute, Core Artist
Flutist Colleen White, a passionate performer and educator, made her solo debut with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at age 16. She has appeared as a featured soloist with the Menomonee Falls Symphony Orchestra and performed in a wide variety of solo, orchestral, and chamber music settings, including performances with the National Flute Association Convention, as a semi-finalist in the Myrna Brown Artist Competition, and as a finalist in Wisconsin Public Radio’s Young Artist’s Competition. From 2009-2011, Colleen was principal flutist of the Madison Savoyards Opera Orchestra and substitute flutist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. She currently performs with various Denver-based ensembles and as a substitute flutist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
Praised for her brilliant tone and energetic teaching style, Colleen has presented workshops and masterclasses across the United States on a variety of topics including memorization, electroacoustic music, ensemble techniques, and career development. As an arts administrator, she has coordinated performances for the Spoleto Festival USA and Wisconsin Public Radio, in addition to funding several projects through grant writing. As a recipient of the Boedecker Foundation Path to Excellence Grant, Colleen co-created and directed multimedia projects providing educational and performance opportunities for the Boulder, CO community and its middle school band programs.
Colleen has been honored to receive instruction from flutists William Bennett, Denis Bouriakov, Paul Edmund-Davies, Sir James Galway, Marianne Gedigian, Lorna McGhee, Tara Helen O’Connor, Keith Underwood, and Trevor Wye. Her primary teachers include Christina Jennings, Brook Ferguson, Janet Arms, Dawn Lawler, Carol Meves, and Stephanie Jutt. Colleen holds degrees with high honors from the University of Colorado Boulder (DMA), the Hartt School (MM), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (BM). For Fall 2017, Colleen joins the faculties at Colorado State University and MSU Denver, teaching flute as a sabbatical replacement.
